Public Health Officials Weigh Monitoring of Drug-Resistant Staph
KQED's "The California Report" on Wednesday reported on California's response to increased reports of deaths related to methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus infections.
The California Department of Public Health in coming weeks is expected to decide whether to require reporting of MRSA cases. Many hospitals and schools in the state increased efforts to reduce the spread of the bacteria after cases in California and elsewhere drew national attention last fall.
The segment includes comments from:
- Henry Chambers, a MRSA expert at San Francisco General Hospital;
- Hellena Postrk, principal of Sequoia Middle School; and
- A Department of Public Health official (Sun, "The California Report," KQED, 1/2).
