Resolution Would Ask Schools To Offer Daily Vegan Lunches
The Assembly Education Committee is scheduled to vote today on a non-binding resolution that would ask schools to provide at least one daily "plant-based" entrée, the San Francisco Chronicle reports. The resolution is sponsored by Assembly member Joe Nation (D-Marin), who says he advocated the measure after hearing from parents who complained about unhealthy foods in schools. The resolution could help combat childhood obesity and "sends a message that ... schools can probably do a better job feeding our kids," Nation said (Severson, San Francisco Chronicle, 3/5).
