Revised State Budget Includes Full Funding for Kids’ Insurance
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) on Monday is scheduled to release his revised budget proposal for fiscal year 2007-2008, including full funding for Healthy Families, the North County Times reports (Sifuentes, North County Times, 5/14).
Speaking on behalf of the governor in his weekly radio address, Department of Finance Director Mike Genest said that Schwarzenegger's updated budget plan would include funds to cover 75,000 children being enrolled in Healthy Families, California's version of the State Children's Health Insurance Program (Office of the Governor release, 5/12).
Genest said the proposal would not increase taxes (North County Times, 5/14).
Helping to fund the governor's priorities in the upcoming fiscal year, state officials last week announced that California collected $15 billion in taxes in April. The amount boosted state revenue above previous projections (Davis, AP/Ventura County Star, 5/14).
Audio of Genest's remarks and a Spanish translation are available on the governor's Web site. In addition, Schwarzenegger's announcement of the revised proposal will be broadcast online at 1 p.m. PT on Monday.
