Riverside Hospital Given Preliminary Accreditation Denial by JCAHO
The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations
has issued a "preliminary denial of accreditation" to Parkview Hospital in Riverside for "significant non-compliance" with the commission's standards, the Riverside Press-Enterprise reports. JCAHO officials did not specify their findings (Beeman, Riverside Press-Enterprise, 3/7). Earlier this week, Parkview was dropped from Medicare and Medi-Cal for problems with the hospital's pharmacy services, nursing services, medical staff and quality assurance. The loss of Medicare and Medi-Cal patients, who made up about two-thirds of Parkview's discharges in 2000, forced the hospital temporarily to close its emergency room (California Healthline, 3/6). Parkview remains accredited and will continue to treat patients at least until JCAHO reaches a final decision, which is expected on Wednesday (Riverside Press-Enterprise, 3/7).
