ROUNDUP: Some Officials Mark Start of Summer with New Jobs
With the changing of the seasons, some Californians are welcoming a change in scenery at the workplace. Here is a sampling of some of the movers and shakers:
- Kaiser Permanente: R. Michael Alexander will serve as the senior vice president and service area manager in Kaiser Permanente's Northern California Central Area, which includes the cities of Fresno, Stockton and Modesto. Alexander, who currently serves as vice president and executive director of Kaiser's Denver/Boulder market, will begin his new duties on July 10 (Kaiser Permanente release, 6/8).
- American Medical Association: Dr. Richard Corlin, a gastroenterologist and assistant professor at UCLA, is the new president-elect for the AMA. Elected last week during the AMA's annual meeting in Chicago, he will assume his year-long post during next year's meeting (AP/Sacramento Bee, 6/15).
- State Medical Board: Gov. Gray Davis (D) has appointed Mary McDevitt to the Medical Board of California's Division of Medical Quality. She currently serves as the medical director and senior vice president at Marin General Hospital. Her position requires Senate confirmation (Davis release, 6/9).
- California Commission on Aging: Davis also announced new members to the California Commission on Aging. They include: Sally Acosta, senior assemblywoman for the California Senior Legislature; Ernest Ayala, senior senator of the California Senior Legislature; Shirley Bierly, secretary of the Senior Action Network Board of Directors; Richard Gunther, associated with the University of California-Los Angeles Center for Aging; Jorge Lambrinos, director of the Edward R. Roybal Institute for Applied Gerontology; Kathryn Nack, president of the board of directors for the Alzheimer's Association in Los Angeles; Marvin Schachter, president of the Advisory Council of the Los Angeles Area Agency on Aging; Andrew Scharlach, director of the Center for the Advanced Study of Aging Services at the University of California-Berkeley and Dan Western, president of the consulting firm Western, Murch & Associates (Davis release, 6/8).
