Safeway Rolls Out Generic Drug Program in East Coast Stores
Today, Safeway will begin offering $4 generic prescription drugs at stores in the eastern U.S., according to a company spokesperson, the Washington Post reports.
The move comes two years after Wal-Mart launched its $4 prescription program, which Target matched.
Greg TenEyck, Safeway spokesperson, said the company tested the program in Houston and Dallas in March. Safeway will make the drugs available at stores in Washington, D.C., Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and New Jersey (Mui, Washington Post, 6/11).
