Sales Records Requested From California Biotech
Biotechnology company Amgen in a Securities and Exchange Commission filing on Tuesday said that it has received a subpoena from the New York state attorney general, who has requested documents related to its sales and marketing practices, Bloomberg/Los Angeles Times reports.
Amgen said it received the subpoena on May 10 and plans to fully cooperate with the attorney general.
The subpoena was received on the same day an FDA advisory panel recommended that new restrictions be placed on prescribing Amgen's anemia drugs, Aranesp and Epogen, after studies found that high doses of the drugs can lead to increased risk of heart attack, stroke and death. One week later, CMS announced that it would stop Medicare payments for several unapproved uses of the anemia drugs (Bloomberg/Los Angeles Times, 5/23).
