San Francisco Chronicle Highlights ‘Graveyard Shift’ at San Francisco General Hospital Emergency Room
In the first of a two-part series on emergency rooms, the San Francisco Chronicle yesterday profiled the emergency department at San Francisco General Hospital, the only high-level trauma center in the immediate San Francisco area. The Chronicle provides a time line of events during the "graveyard shift" -- 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. -- at the ER, which also serves as the area's "safety net" for patients without health insurance. The second part of the series, which will highlight a program to prepare University of California-San Francisco medical students for the ER, will appear in the Chronicle next week (Nevius, San Francisco Chronicle, 3/24). The first part of the series is available online.
