SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY: General Hospital Pact Averts Strike
Backpedaling on their decision two weeks ago to strike, nurses at San Joaquin General Hospital have ratified a three-year contract that enjoys "overwhelmin[g]" support, the Sacramento Bee reports. The California Nurses Association said the agreement, which covers more than 500 nurses at the county hospital, clinics, the Public Health Department and other facilities, provides for 9% raises across the next three years. CNA spokesperson Chuck Idelson said that the agreement also calls for the creation of a committee to give nurses more clout in patient care (Kasler, 6/25).
