San Luis Obispo County Healthy Kids Program To Begin To Provide Benefits Next Month
The San Luis Obispo Healthy Kids program on Sept. 1 will begin to provide health, dental and vision benefits to 118 currently uninsured county children after the program received final approval on Aug. 8, the San Luis Obispo Tribune reports.
Healthy Kids will enroll about 2,000 uninsured county children in state health insurance programs such as Medi-Cal and Healthy Families. In addition, Healthy Kids will provide access to health coverage with a monthly premium of about $10 to 1,000 additional uninsured county children, regardless of their immigration status. Health coverage for the 1,000 uninsured county children who do not qualify for state health insurance programs will cost about $1.2 million annually, or about $100 monthly per child.
The county Department of Social Services has sent letters to county residents eligible for the Healthy Kids, and the program will enroll respondents next week (Cornejo, San Luis Obispo Tribune, 8/25).
