SANTA CLARA COUNTY: Health Trust Donates $1M to United Way
Health Trust, a not-for-profit charity, made public last week a $1 million one-time emergency donation to the United Way of Santa Clara County in support of the many health agencies United Way champions. Health Trust Chair Dave Henderson said, "As a grant making organization, Health Trust depends on the United Way to ensure our community's health and human services organizations are strong. Only strong agencies can successfully meet the needs of our diverse community." Calling public attention to the gift, offered last May as part of $14.6 million aid package from community leaders, "recognizes the important role the United Way plays in meeting the health and human services needs of Santa Clara County," Health Trust President Gary Allen added. San Jose Mayor Ron Gonzales, who serves on Health Trust's Board of Trustees, urged the private sector to follow suit, saying, "A strong United Way is essential for a healthy community. We hope this gift will inspire the residents and businesses of San Jose and Silicon Valley to expand their support for the United Way and its agencies" (Health Trust release, 11/10).
