Schwarzenegger Announces Summit on Health, Nutrition and Obesity
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) has announced plans to hold a summit addressing health, nutrition and obesity on Sept. 15, NBC11 News reports (NBC11.com, 6/28). The Governor's Summit on Health, Nutrition and Obesity to Shape Up California will take place in Sacramento in collaboration with the California Endowment. Representatives of the business, transportation, education, government and public health communities will address the state's obesity issues.
First lady Maria Shriver, Health and Human Services Agency Secretary Kim Belshé and DHS Director Sandra Shewry on Tuesday visited a no-cost summer camp for low-income overweight children to launch the program. Shriver will be making a statewide listening tour to meet with California residents most affected by health and nutrition issues (Office of the Governor release, 6/28).
