Schwarzenegger Cancels Campaign Event
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's (R) re-election campaign has cancelled a fundraising event scheduled for Monday because of concerns about an e-mail to the California Society of Facial Plastic Surgeons, the Sacramento Bee reports.
Allison Neves, executive director of CSFPS, wrote in an e-mail to members, "This event will provide us with a very important opportunity to discuss our opinions about Senate Bill 438 with the governor."
CSFPS opposes SB 438 by Sen. Carole Migden (D-San Francisco). The bill would allow oral surgeons to perform some elective cosmetic surgery procedures.
Campaign officials on Aug. 4 learned of the e-mail and said the governor would cancel his appearance at the event.
Marty Wilson, Schwarzenegger's chief political fundraiser, wrote in an e-mail, "I want to make you aware that Gov. Schwarzenegger has a strict policy against discussing official state business or pending legislation at political fundraising events."
The event, scheduled to be held in Santa Monica, was expected to raise about $500,000.
Neves said she was unaware of the policy, according to the Bee (Hill, Sacramento Bee, 8/12).
