Schwarzenegger Gives Support for New Medical School at UC-Riverside
On Monday, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) expressed his support for a new medical school at UC-Riverside, the Riverside Press-Enterprise reports.
UC-Riverside has proposed opening a medical school in 2012 with an initial class of 50 medical students. The school eventually would expand to 400 medical students, 160 residents and 160 graduate students.
The school would cost about $507.9 million to build and $87 million annually to operate. University officials plan to raise $25 million annually in gifts and endowments.
Schwarzenegger did not make any funding commitments to the initiative.
Next month, the UC Board of Regents is scheduled to vote on the plan for the medical school (Miller, Riverside Press-Enterprise, 6/2).
