Schwarzenegger Signs Children’s Health Measures
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) on Tuesday signed legislation addressing children's health care and health benefits, the Fresno Bee reports (Boyles, Fresno Bee, 9/20). The governor signed:

AB 576, by Assembly member Lois Wolk (D-Vacaville), which would make it easier to share immunization information and require the Department of Health Services to plan an expansion of existing state immunization registries (Office of the Governor release, 9/19);

AB 1745, by Assembly member Wilma Chan (D-Oakland), which will require the Department of Health Services to develop and analyze a pilot program to permit children to receive hospice benefits (Fresno Bee, 9/20);

AB 1851, by Assembly member Joe Coto (D-San Jose), which will permit health, dental and vision plans to continue providing help with Healthy Families applications to people referred by a government agency, school or school district;

AB 1948, by Assembly member Cindy Montañez (D-Mission Hills), which would allow families to pre-enroll children in temporary Medi-Cal or Healthy Families and apply for standard Medi-Cal or Healthy Families coverage;

AB 2379, by Chan, which, for the next six years, would ensure that children with complicated medical cases who are enrolled in Medi-Cal managed care plans receive treatment through the California Children's Services network of specialty providers and treatment facilities (Office of the Governor release, 9/19);

AB 2560, by Assembly member Mark Ridley-Thomas (D-Los Angeles), which will support the development of 500 school-based health clinics (Fresno Bee, 9/20);

AB 2651, by Assembly member Dave Jones (D-Sacramento), which would require general acute care hospitals with a licensed perinatal service to provide hearing screenings for infants (Sanders, Sacramento Bee, 9/20); and
- SB 437, by Sen. Martha Escutia (D-Norwalk), which would streamline enrollment in Medi-Cal and Healthy Families (Fresno Bee, 9/20).
