Schwarzenegger Warns of Cuts to Health Care, Other Social Services
On Wednesday, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) warned that the growing state budget deficit will force spending cuts in public services, including health care, the Sacramento Bee reports.
The governor said, "Since everyone has to take a haircut here, itâs natural that education gets hit, law enforcement gets hit, prisons are going to get hit and also health care is going to get hit."Â He added, "So, it's just the math, it's not me, it's mathematics that tell you that you gave to make cuts in those different areas."
On Monday, Schwarzenegger said he would call a special session of the legislature to deal with the state's fiscal challenges after the election next week (Sanders, Sacramento Bee, 10/30).
