Senate Committee Approves Measure to Allow Sale of Emergency Contraception Without Prescription
The state Senate Health and Human Services Committee has approved a bill that would allow women to obtain emergency contraception over the counter, the Los Angeles Times reports. Introduced by state Sen. Dede Alpert (D), the measure would allow any woman to obtain EC without a prior doctor's visit (Gellene, Los Angeles Times, 5/24). Last month, eight California counties launched a pilot program that allows women to receive EC without a prescription (California Healthline, 4/11).
