Senate Finance Panel Pushes Back Deadline for Overhaul Proposal
A six-member bipartisan negotiating group made up of members of the Senate Finance Committee on Friday set Sept. 15 as its new deadline to complete work on a health care reform bill, Politico reports (Budoff Brown, Politico, 7/31).
A source familiar with the negotiations said the group "agreed by that date there would be a product ready for a markup." Â Members of the group are Committee Chair Max Baucus (D-Mont.), ranking member Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) and
- Sens. Jeff Bingaman (D-N.M.);
- Kent Conrad (D-N.D.);
- Mike Enzi (R-Wyo.); and
- Olympia Snowe (R-Maine) (Reichard, CQ HealthBeat, 7/31).
The full Finance Committee is not expected to meet this week before the recess because the full Senate is scheduled to discuss and hold a series of votes, including one on the confirmation of Supreme Court nominee Judge Sonia Sotomayor, CongressDaily reports (Goode, CongressDaily, 8/3).
The Senate is due to adjourn for a month-long recess on Friday (Politico, 7/31).This is part of the California Healthline Daily Edition, a summary of health policy coverage from major news organizations. Sign up for an email subscription.
