Several Calif. Facilities Named to List of Top Hospitals Nationwide
The Leapfrog Group has named several hospitals in California to its 2011 list of top U.S. hospitals, the San Francisco Business Times reports.
The Leapfrog Group is made up of public and private purchasers of employee health benefits, and it advocates for health care affordability, quality and safety.
Nearly 1,200 hospitals were eligible for the list, which required the organizations to fill out the Leapfrog Hospital Survey (Rauber, San Francisco Business Times, 12/6).
How Hospitals Were Selected
The survey assessed hospital performance in several areas, including staffing levels, hand hygiene, pneumonia care, patient experience and adoption of computerized provider order entry systems (McKinney, Modern Healthcare, 12/6).
A total of 65 hospitals nationwide were selected for the list.
Top Hospitals Based in California
Eighteen Kaiser Permanente facilities were included in the list of top hospitals.
Other California-based facilities selected for the list include:
- Children's Hospital Los Angeles;
- Children's Hospital of Orange County (Los Angeles Business, 12/6);
- Mills-Peninsula Health Services;
- Stanford Hospital and Clinics; and
- UC-San Diego Health System.
The full list of top hospitals is available in a Leapfrog Group release (Leapfrog Group release, 12/6).
