Siemens, Microsoft Announce New Partnership to Optimize Health Information Applications
Siemens Medical Solutions Health Services Corp. and Microsoft Corp. announced Tuesday that they have entered into a "new strategic alliance" aimed at "optimiz[ing]" Siemens' health information applications on the Microsoft .NET Enterprise technology platform. The companies will also collaborate to build cost-effective best practices for hosting applications in an Application Service Provider model. According to officials, the alliance between the two companies dates to 1995, when Siemens, then called Shared Medical Systems, and Microsoft began a health care development partnership. In 1998, the agreement was renewed and expanded to include a joint development lab located on Microsoft's corporate campus (Siemens Medical Solutions release, 10/30).
