SB 896 by Sen. George Runner (R-Lancaster) was amended to allow public health agencies to contract with emergency health service providers to provide health care services to inmates. The amended bill would convene a working group to examine the fiscal issues relating to the contracts if one hospital or hospital system is treating a disproportionate share of inmates. The legislation originally addressed child support (Bill text, 5/18). The bill was re-referred to the Assembly Judiciary Committee (Bill status, 5/22).This is part of the California Healthline Daily Edition, a summary of health policy coverage from major news organizations.
