STATE APPOINTMENTS: New Directors of Mental Health, Rehabilitation
Governor Gray Davis (D) announced Thursday the appointments of Stephen Mayberg as director of the Department of Mental Health and Catherine Campisi as the director of the Department of Rehabilitation. Dr. Mayberg, 53, served as director and deputy director of the Yolo County Department of Mental Health from 1981 to 1993, and has served in several other organizations, including the California Mental Health Directors Association, the Little Hoover Commission Advisory Committee on Abuse and Neglected Children in Foster or Group Homes and the National Association of State Mental Health Program Directors. Dr. Campisi, 50, has served as coordinator for disabled student programs for the Chancellor's Office of Community Colleges since 1998. She previously served in various capacities for the state Department of Rehabilitation. Most notably, Campisi served as deputy director for Independent Service from 1995 to 1998, and as assistant deputy director for the Transitions Program from 1992 to 1995. Both positions, which require state Senate confirmation, pay an annual salary of $105,883, reflecting a 5% reduction as requested by Gov. Davis (Office of the Governor release, 11/11).
