STRYKER’S CORNER: Bill Of Rights Or Bill Of Goods?
Today's edition of Stryker's Corner features a look at state and federal consumer protections for managed care patients embodied in various "Patients' Bills of Rights." More than forty states have enacted some type of consumer protection; President Clinton says the result is a "patchwork of reforms" that leaves 140 million Americans without basic protection. While some applaud his call for a federal "Patients' Bill of Rights," others accuse him of currying favor by HMO bashing, an increasingly popular political sport.
