Technology Contractors Focus on Health Care Operations
Information technology contractors are focusing on a range of issues in an effort to "bul[k] up their health care operations," the Washington Post reports. The companies are working on projects that include making improvements to the efficiency of Medicare and Medicaid systems, implementing electronic health record sharing systems and using computer models to detect and follow emerging health threats, according to Washington Technology's annual Top 100 report on federal contractors in IT.
The Post examined some efforts currently underway, including how Northrop Grumman acquired Integic to win a share of the National Health Information Network contract. The contract will be used to develop prototypes for a nationwide health information network system that would allow the exchange of EHRs.
The Post also examined how Perot Systems and Accenture are working on developing their health care businesses (Gerin, Washington Post, 5/15).
