Tenet To Eliminate 300 Jobs, Merge 56 Offices To Streamline Billing Operations
Santa Barbara-based Tenet Healthcare will eliminate 300 jobs from its current 3,200-member billing and collection staff and consolidate 56 billing offices into eight regional offices and one Medicare-only office, the AP/Fresno Bee reports (AP/Fresno Bee, 6/15). Two of the regional offices will be in Modesto and Alhambra; the others will be located in South Florida, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Dallas, New Orleans and St. Louis, the Los Angeles Times reports. The layoffs and office closures -- 14 of which are located in California -- are part of a three-year, $275 million effort to streamline the company's billing and collection operations; Tenet officials expect to save $75 million per year as a result of the changes. A Tenet spokesperson said the jobs to be cut had not yet been identified. The cost-cutting efforts come as Medicare reimbursements decline and as the company last month posted a quarterly loss related in part to a federal investigation into its Medicare billing practices, the Times reports (White, Los Angeles Times, 6/14).
