Tens of Thousands of Flu Vaccines Go Unused in Calif. Each Year, Costing Taxpayers Millions
A review of flu vaccine data for the past five years from the California Department of Public Health found that on average more than 88,000 doses of the vaccine go unused each year, costing taxpayers at least $5.9 million in the past five years. The investigation also showed that vaccine use varies throughout the state with Alameda County using 99% of its vaccine and Calaveras using just 61%.
