CMS officials must respond to a claim filed in March by five California counties seeking to recover $2.4 billion in Medicare underpayments for health care providers nationwide over the past six years.
The Senate Appropriations Committee will debate legislation (SB 7) by Sen. Jenny Oropeza (D-Carson) that would ban smoking in a car with children present, as well as a bill (SB 483) by Sen. Sheila Kuehl (D-Los Angeles) to expand Medi-Cal eligibility for services at nursing homes and other long-term care facilities.
The Assembly Health Committee on Tuesday will consider revisions to a bill (AB 16) by Assembly member Ed Hernandez (D-Baldwin Park) that would require all California girls entering the seventh grade to be immunized against human papillomavirus. The committee agenda also includes consideration of AB 8 by Assembly Speaker Fabian Núñez (D-Los Angeles) to declare the Legislature's support for providing health care coverage to all Californians.
The Senate Health Committee on Wednesday will consider Sen. Sheila Kuehl's (D-Los Angeles) SB 840 to create a single-payer, state-run health care system in California, as well as SB 24 by Sen. Tom Torlakson (D-Concord) to boost funding for health care programs by increasing the state tobacco tax.
