The Week Ahead
Monday
The Legislature returns from summer recess and is expected to continue negotiations on the state budget plan before taking action on other legislation.
However, the Senate Appropriations Committee has a hearing scheduled to consider a long list of bills, including:
- AB 2, by Assembly member Mervyn Dymally (D-Compton), which would require health plans to offer individual policies to state residents who are not eligible for the Managed Risk Medical Insurance Program;
- AB 543, by Assembly member George Plescia (R-San Diego), to require surgical clinics to meet additional operational, staffing and procedural criteria for licensure; and
- AB 1113, by Assembly member Julia Brownley (D-Woodland Hills), which would continue a provision that extends eligibility for Medi-Cal to people with disabilities.
Wednesday
The California Chapter of AARP is holding a rally at the state Capitol to urge lawmakers to reform California's health care system this year.
