Thousand Oaks City Council Member Proposes Creation of New Hospital
To alleviate crowding at HCA -- The Healthcare Co.'s Los Robles Regional Medical Center, Thousand Oaks City Council member Linda Parks plans to ask the council to form a subcommittee to investigate the creation of a second hospital, the Los Angeles Times reports. Even though Los Robles is planning a 10-year expansion, Parks said that the hospital is "not big enough" to meet the demands of the area. According to the Healthcare Association of Southern California, even a small "full-service" hospital would cost at least $30 million to build (Talev, Los Angeles Times, 6/16). Parks wants the subcommittee to include Los Angeles and Ventura county officials and representatives from the state, city and health care industry (Glick, Ventura County Star, 6/18).
