Three Contra Costa County Health Clinics Form New Consortium
Three public health clinics in Contra Costa County have partnered to form a new consortium for "lobbying, fundraising and educational efforts," the Contra Costa Times reports. The members of the Community Clinic Consortium -- Brookside Community Health Center in San Pablo, La Clinica de la Raza in Pittsburg and Planned Parenthood: Shasta-Diablo -- provide free or low-cost care to about 34,500 county residents each year. According to Aimee Chitayat, director of the consortium, providers must "band together to fight for whatever they can get," as health care costs increase and funds for public health care decrease. Jane Garcia, CEO of La Clinica, added, "The consortium gives us the collective voice to describe the health care challenges of the most vulnerable residents in the county, and to help us reach our goal of developing a more responsive health care system" (Contra Costa Times, 5/30).This is part of the California Healthline Daily Edition, a summary of health policy coverage from major news organizations.
