TOM CAMPBELL: Enlists McCain in New Advertising Blitz
Hoping to boost his recognition among California's 24 million voters, Rep. Tom Campbell (R) has launched a series of ads in his quest for two-term incumbent Dianne Feinstein's (D) U.S. Senate seat. Two of the ads, "McCain, a TV spot, and "Conservative," a radio spot, feature Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) calling Campbell "a maverick like me." In the TV spot, McCain praises Campbell for "[standing] up to his own party on campaign finance reform ... [and] taking on the HMOs to win back patients' rights." Campbell's other two spots, "Experience" and "Convention," focus on his 17-year teaching career and his record of fiscal responsibility in the House. In "Experience," an announcer states: "For 17 years, Tom Campbell has made a personal commitment to educational experience as a teacher ... His record -- fiscally responsible. His values -- solid." The three 30- second television ads and one radio commercial will run from July 31 to Aug. 7 throughout southern California, the Central Valley and the Inland Empire (National Journal Group, 8/4).
