Trauma Designations Planned for San Luis Obispo
Three hospitals in San Luis Obispo County have submitted applications to the county Emergency Medical Services Agency to be designated trauma centers, the San Luis Obispo Tribune reports.
The county currently does not have a trauma center. The hospitals seeking trauma designation are:
- Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center in San Luis Obispo, seeking level II designation;
- French Hospital Medical Center in San Luis Obispo, seeking level III designation; and
- Arroyo Grande Community Hospital, seeking level III designation.
The county's emergency medical agency in 2004 led a task force with emergency service providers to create a trauma system plan calling for designated trauma centers.
The agency will create a plan that ensures emergency patients receive the appropriate care in a timely matter.
Once the plan is created and the trauma center designations are awarded, the agency will submit its proposal to state officials for final approval (Arnquist, San Luis Obispo Tribune, 7/6).
