UC-Davis Transplant Research Institute to Receive $1.3 Million
The University of California-Davis has been promised $1.3 million in private donations for its Transplant Research Institute, the Sacramento Bee reports. Announced last week, the grants are from three Sacramento-area business executives and will be used to help UC-Davis researchers find solutions to the national organ shortage. The largest donation, $1.2 million in a charitable remainder trust, will benefit the Transplant Hope endowment, which is the fund-raising branch of the institute. An anonymous $50,000 grant will "immediately benefit" the institute's research program, which is working to create organs by regenerating human stem cells (Griffith, Sacramento Bee, 3/23).
