UCSD-Led Study: Cigarette Smoke Exacerbates MRSA
Exposure to cigarette smoke can worsen methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus and make the bacteria harder to kill, according to a study led by UC-San Diego researchers. Specifically, the study found that MRSA bacteria that are exposed to smoke extract were four times more resistant than non-exposed MRSA.
