UnitedHealthcare Physician Negotiations Affect Contracts
A major customer of UnitedHealthcare on Friday announced that it dropped the health plan, with other large companies considering similar action, the San Francisco Business Times reports. The announcement comes amidst continuing contract disputes between the insurer and Bay Area doctors.
Sun Microsystems, with 7,000 employees in the state, has replaced UnitedHealthcare with Blue Cross of California. Sun did not disclose its reasoning for the decision, something that is not uncommon as many companies do not publicize which health plan they choose.
The decision was made as many large employers are deciding which health plans to offer employees next year (Rauber, San Francisco Business Times, 10/27).
