U.S. Rep Stark Likely Will Be Re-Elected
U.S. Rep. Pete Stark (D-Calif.) likely will keep his seat in Congress after the November elections, the Contra Costa Times reports. Stark represents Alameda, San Leandro and other cities in Alameda and Contra Costa counties.
Stark, who has spent more than 30 years in Congress, is a senior member of the House Ways and Means Committee, which addresses issues like taxes, Medicare and Social Security. He supports efforts to extend unemployment and health insurance benefits for the long-term unemployed and opposes efforts to privatize Social Security.
Stark said he believes he will get "a substantial majority" of votes in the election (Hegarty, Contra Costa Times, 10/6).
