USA Today Examines Steve Case’s Launch of Revolution Health
USA Today on Thursday examined Revolution Health Group, a private company led by former AOL Time Warner Chair Steve Case that seeks to promote consumer-driven health care. Revolution Health -- owned in part by the private holding company Revolution, which Case founded in April, and in part by Case and other investors, such as former Secretary of State Colin Powell -- will purchase smaller companies that track price and quality data on health plans.
According to Case, Revolution Health, which will formally launch on Thursday, currently has agreements to purchase seven unnamed companies. Case maintains that some of the companies will help reduce health care spending through lower-cost services or efforts to streamline the purchase of health insurance.
According to USA Today, the launch of Revolution Health "comes amid rising interest" in consumer-driven health care, and Case "is gambling that the current buzz on how to fix the nation's health system -- more consumer choice and responsibility -- is not a passing fad, but a long-term business opportunity" (Appleby, USA Today, 7/7).
