cancer practices, gain managed care contracts and improve the
delivery of care to patients has been created by Value Health,
Inc. The effort was jointly financed by E.M. Warburg Pincus &
Co., Inc. The new company, Value Oncology Sciences (VOS), will
develop and operate oncology programs for managed care
organizations, "using networks composed of both oncologists for
whom it is providing management services and other independent
oncologists in local markets."
A START: Value Health and Warburg Pincus acquired two
practice management firms to help form VOS. The companies,
Oncology Partners, Inc. of Atlanta and Healthcare Reimbursement
Consultants, Inc. of New York, and the practices of more than 35
oncologists in four regions will be used to establish regional
oncology management services organizations. VOS has offices in
Avon, CT, Santa Monica, CA and Atlanta, GA.
PURPOSE AND BELIEF: "In creating this new company, we
purposely decided to partner with providers rather than purchase
physician practices as so many of our competitors have done,"
said John Randazzo, VOS chair and CEO. "We can provide
independent physicians with the company's sophisticated clinical
tools, managed care knowledge, practice and management skills and
financial resources," he said (Value Health release, 11/21).
