Walgreens, BCBSA Partner To Educate Americans on ACA Details
The Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association and Walgreens have partnered to launch a national campaign and new website aimed at educating consumers about the Affordable Care Act's eligibility requirements, enrollment options and available benefits, Modern Healthcare reports.
Partnership Details
The initiative was announced amid efforts by the Obama administration to engage prominent private organizations, including sports teams and leagues, to participate in educating the public about the ACA (Landen, Modern Healthcare, 7/10).
The campaign will leverage both companies' nationwide presence to provide information via brochures offered at nearly all of Walgreens' locations and a website called LearnAboutReform.com. The resources will describe the law, the individual mandate, new requirements for insurers, and key dates and provide links to BCBSA websites.
Partnership Comments
Brad Fluegel -- a Walgreens senior vice president and chief strategy officer -- in a statement said, "There's a lot of confusion, a lot of questions and it will take a tremendous collaborative effort to make sure people have the information they need to make informed choices" (Haberkorn, Politico, 7/11).
BCBSA Senior Vice President Maureen Sullivan added, "The [ACA] will expand access to health insurance for millions of Americans and broaden health benefits, but many Americans have had little experience purchasing health coverage and are confused about what the law means to them." She said BCBSA and Walgreens are committed to "ensuring that all Americans have the tools they need to understand these changes and access affordable health insurance coverage that meets their needs" (Viebeck, "Healthwatch," The Hill, 7/10).
