Web Site Connects Pregnant Women With Providers
A six-month-old Web site based in Orange County lets pregnant women search online for health care providers who meet their needs, the Orange County Register reports.
About 85% of the medical providers and businesses on the site, www.MyBirthTeam.com, are located in Orange County, but the site is expanding to include other areas of the country.
Patients can go online to search for physicians based on characteristics such as gender, practice size, insurance coverage and treatments offered.
The Web site includes information on:
- Pediatricians;
- Hospitals and birth centers;
- Fertility specialists;
- Labor support and doulas; and
- Obstetricians, gynecologists and midwives.
There have been 600 patients who registered for the site, and 200 providers have signed up to have their information listed. In its first three months of operation, the Web site had one million hits.
The Web site has expanded beyond health care to include information on other pregnancy-related fields, such as florists and clothing stores.
Cyndi Gross, the site's founder and a former doula, plans to launch similar health Web sites that let consumers search for cardiologists and other medical specialists (Bernhard, Orange County Register, 7/5).
