WHO Says Most C-Sections Are Medically Unnecessary
Last week, the World Health Organization issued a statement noting that most Caesarean-section operations are medically unnecessary. WHO said, "As Caesarean-section rates increased above 10% and up to 30% no effect on mortality rates was observed." For example, C-section rates at San Diego facilities ranged from 27% to 39% in 2013, according to Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development data.
