The Senate will hear the third reading of AB 2754 by Assembly member Wilma Chan (D-Oakland) (Bill status, 8/23). The legislation would require a general acute care, acute psychiatric or specialty hospital to adopt and annually review policies to determine professional and technical staffing. The policies would not apply to nurses. In addition, the bill would authorize the Department of Health Services to levy fines against facilities that violate staffing provisions (Bill text, 8/7).
