Doctors and Nurses
The governor has signed SB 1393 by Sen. Jack Scott (D-Altadena) (Bill status, 7/22). The law will bar California State University campuses and community colleges from requiring registered nursing students with bachelor's degrees from other institutions to complete courses other than those required for the RN degree (Bill text, 7/22).
In addition, Schwarzenegger has signed SB 1621 by Sen. Roy Ashburn (R-Bakersfield) (Bill status, 7/22). Under the measure, Californians with a bachelor's or graduate degree in nursing or related fields will be eligible for student loan assistance through the State Nursing Assumption Program of Loans for Education (Bill text, 7/22).
