Garamendi: Lt. Governor’s Office Could Be Watchdog
Insurance Commissioner John Garamendi (D) said if he is elected lieutenant governor he will use the post to become a consumer watchdog on issues ranging from health care to global warming, the Sacramento Bee reports.
Garamendi said the post, which is largely ceremonial, has been "underutilized for many, many years," adding, "It has the potential to really be a consumer watchdog and advocate for consumers."
Garamendi is running against Sen. Tim McClintock (R-Thousand Oaks) in the November election (Benson, Sacramento Bee, 9/12).
