Health Care Costs
AB 195 by the Assembly Budget Committee would direct the state Physician Services Account -- a unit of the Cigarette and Tobacco Products Surtax Fund that reimburses health care providers for indigent health care -- to allocate $12 million to the Department of Health Care Services for the Expanded Access to Primary Care program for 2007-2008, instead of the usual $11 million allocation. The bill also would reduce by $10 million the transfer from the Physician Services Account to the Major Risk Medial Insurance program (Bill Text, 9/7). Gov. Schwarzenegger is considering the bill (Bill Status, 9/19).
