San Francisco Bay Area Wins Stimulus Funding for Medical Research
On Wednesday, officials announced that the San Francisco Bay area would receive $215.7 million in federal health research grants, the Contra Costa Times reports.
The funds are part of the $5 billion in stimulus funds allotted to NIH for medical research.
President Obama announced the funds Wednesday with HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius and NIH Director Francis Collins. Obama said the grants would help improve public health and boost the economy.
A breakdown of the Bay area grants is provided below.
- $64,131,597 will go toward supporting 169 projects in the 14th congressional district, primarily at Stanford University;
- $60,974,934 will go toward supporting 181 projects in the 12th district, primarily at UC-San Francisco; and
- $56,565,645 will go toward supporting 107 projects in the 9th district, primarily at UC-Berkeley.
