The Week Ahead
Monday
The Senate Appropriations Committee is scheduled to discuss a number of health care-related bills, including:
- SB 1221, which would require health care facilities to demonstrate community benefits before seeking funds from the California Health Facilities Financing Authority, local governments or joint powers authorities; and
- SB 1332, to create a pilot program for Medi-Cal managed care benefits.
Tuesday
The UC Board of Regents will begin a three-day meeting in Los Angeles. Agenda items include a proposal to develop a new medical school at UC-Merced.
Wednesday
Gov. Schwarzenegger is scheduled to release his updated budget proposal.
Thursday
The Senate Budget and Fiscal Review Subcommittee will meet to discuss bills including:
- AB 16, to require health plans to cover the human papillomavirus virus vaccine if it is recommended by a health care provider; and
- AB 2899, which would require the Department of Public Health to create an HIV counseling program.
Friday
May 16 is the last day that policy committees can meet before June 2.
