UCLA MEDICAL CENTER: Outsources HIM Services to Certus
Certus Corp., a consulting group that provides information technology outsourcing services for the health care industry, recently announced that it will handle the University of California-Los Angeles Medical Center's health information management operations. Under the deal, which had been in negotiations since January, Certus will manage HIM services at several UCLA facilities, including the UCLA Medical Center, the Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center and UCLA Medical Plaza Outpatient Clinics. Through the deal, UCLA hopes to streamline medical records operations to reduce costs, implement more efficient computerized patient medical records and expand HIM services. Certus also will help UCLA better utilize HIM services for department management, operations reviews and the staffing of medical records and cancer registries. Dr. Michael Karpf, director of UCLA Medical Center, said, "We believe this partnership will give us the advantage of gaining access to the most progressive health information management systems now" (Certus release, 8/25).
